The first edition of the Great Hungarian Songbook, which reinterpreted and thrillingly rearranged Hungarian popular music hits from the past century, was opened for the first time in 2014. This newest selection once again presents this loveable strand of our common cultural heritage as a harmonic mixture of diverse styles and genres. This production featuring Béla Zerkovitz and the hit factories from dance festivals past, composers of legendary film hits and creators of musical dramas from the ’60s and masters great and small of 20th century Hungarian popular music will evoke the plethora of hits through the singing of Kátya Tompos and Nikolas Takács. Their dynamic personalities and savvy as performers, not to mention their markedly different artistic styles, in and of themselves promise a creative encounter. And of course nostalgia and a retro feeling, although this second song anthology is just as capable of delivering surprising discoveries, since the freshness of the approach to performing and arranging the songs, as well as how they are positioned them side by side, is likely to shed new light not only on the familiar numbers, but perhaps a bit on our common history as well. In any case, again having Norbert Káel as arranger and music director and György Böhm as director guarantees yet another unique concert experience.
