Joseph Haydn – Péter Esterházy: Seven Last Words

Budapest Sound Collective
conductor: Gergely Dubóczky
text by Péter Esterházy spoken by Pál Mácsai and Éva Kerekes
Scene: Lili Izsák

The Seven Last Words of Our Saviour On the Cross, an orchestral work by Joseph Haydn, was commissioned in 1785 or 1786 for the Good Friday service at Cádiz Cathedral in Spain.

Upon an idea and concept of the young conductor Gergely Dubóczky the famous Haydn-piece will be performed now in two different renditions in Hungary: at first on April 12th at 7:30 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Church of Gödöllö and then on 16th April at 7 p.m. in the Budapest Music Center. This latter also will be a special premiere, as the renowned Hungarian writer Péter Esterházy wrote a present-day text to it, replacing the original sermon of the Bishop of Cádiz.
